ANCHOR BREATH.

Every meditation needs a home base — a place attention can always return to. This week's ten-minute practice builds yours: one point in the breath that becomes your anchor, in the session and in the middle of a difficult Tuesday.

The Session · 10 minutes

Finding your anchor

Read it through once, set a soft ten-minute timer, and let the structure carry you.

0–1 min

Arrive

Sit comfortably, feet on the floor, hands resting anywhere. Eyes closed or soft toward the floor.

"I don't have to calm my mind. I just have to give it somewhere to sit."
1–3 min

Tour the breath

Follow one breath through the body: cool air at the nostrils, the chest rising, the belly expanding. Take a few slow rounds and simply notice where the breath feels most vivid to you.

3–5 min

Choose your anchor

Pick that one spot — nostrils, chest, or belly. That's your anchor for the week. Rest your attention there like a hand on a railing: light, but in contact.

"This spot is home. However far I drift, home doesn't move."
5–9 min

Stay, drift, return

Keep attention at the anchor. When the mind wanders — it will, that's its job — notice, and come back to the same spot. No restarting, no scolding. Just the quiet walk home, as many times as it takes.

9–10 min

Close gently

Let the anchor go. Hear the room, take one deeper breath, open the eyes, and sit for a few seconds before rejoining your day.

"The anchor comes with me. It's three breaths away, all day long."
Between Sessions

Five micro-pauses for real life

Your anchor works outside the session too — thirty seconds, anywhere.

  1. The three-breath anchor

Anytime, anywhere: three breaths felt at your anchor point. The whole practice, pocket-sized.

  2. The parked-car minute

Before going into the house, the office, the school run: one quiet minute in the seat, hands in the lap, anchor found.

  3. The doorknob breath

Hand on the handle, one breath at the anchor, then open the door. Thresholds make excellent reminders.

  4. The kettle stillness

While the water heats: nothing else. Stand, breathe at your anchor, watch the steam.

  5. The pillow return

Head on the pillow, find the anchor one last time and follow five breaths there. Often you won't reach the fifth.

The Weekly Plan

Seven days, one gentle rhythm

Four full sessions this week, micro-pauses every day. Same anchor all week — familiarity is what turns a spot into a home.

If the anchor keeps slipping

Try resting a hand on your belly or chest during the session — the physical touch gives attention something warmer to hold. Training wheels are allowed, this week and every week.
